The Naxalite-Maoist Insurgency, originated in 1967, is an ongoing
conflict between Maoist groups known as Naxals, and the Indian
Government. The Naxals claim to be fighting for cause of poor people
who have historically been denied opportunities from the government,
and have often resorted to violent measures such as killing Government
workers and local law enforcement officers. They are spread across
India, but predominantly operate in the states of Chattisgarh,
Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.
